Best places to get a Nibble and a Drink in the South Cariboo
Me and Joel are self-professed foodies. We’ve done the work for you and here are our results!
BJ’s Doughnuts: Do not pass town without picking up 1 or 6 or 12 (no judgement here). I can’t even say more. Just do yourself this favour. Life is too short.
Lac La Hache Bakery: Travelling up to Williams Lake? Stop here on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and GET A SCONE! Mmmmm! Or the Almond Crescents. Both equally delectable. You’ll never look back. But beware- scones aren't ready before lunch. I'm spreading the love so you can avoid those disappointed breakfast runs.
Q Brew Coffee: After you hit up the bakery, cross the road to grab an amazing coffee from this new little joint. There’s not a ton of space for sitting in, so if you’re going with a gang, prepare to be cozy. The little coffee-making nook you see as you come in the door is as cute as can be. They also make some fierce drinks in there! My favourite so far has been the Chili Mocha. Yum yum yum!!!! The owners live right there, so they’re open longer hours than usual.
Cinnamon Rolls at Rise and Grind: I mean, honestly, all their food is so yum. I think the chef is a magical food unicorn. But their cinnamon buns specifically are MAGIC! I’ve spent sleepless nights trying to replicate them at home. So far, not so much luck. They usually have them out in the afternoon and they don’t bake them on the weekends. So know your window, get in there and make it happen!!!
The Iron Horse Pub in Lone Butte: The vibe here is really awesome. It's always energetic and has a woodsy Cariboo thing going on. And don’t even get me started on their appies! SO good! And their wings- best and cheapest around. We were there almost every Wednesday for wings night before we had the baby. But soon the baby will learn to enjoy the beauty of wings night as well and we’ll be baaaaack!
P. Bass Fish and Chips: Joel is a fish and chips FIEND. He’s got a picky palate and is used to coastal delicacies! We’ve tried lots of fish and chips from Kamloops to Quesnel and this has been the best so far. It's all in the tartar sauce...
The Red Rock Grill: If you’re not up for a drive to Lone Butte on a Wednesday for wings, pop in here. The wings are pretty good and you can even get them as takeaway for the same price if you order before 5pm! An option we've been taking advantage a lot lately...
Blue sky restaurant: This is my favourite Chinese in town. A base of chicken balls and chow mein with one other wild card and you’re good to go. Maybe I need to branch out a bit more, but why mess with a good thing? Ordering off the menu is kind of pricey but you get TONS of food and it’s nicer than the buffet. Totally worth it on a Chinese food craving night.
The Chartreuse Moose: We can’t leave this one out. A favourite destination for coffee dates. They’ve got great drinks and yummy treats. In autumn they have a drink called Fall In A Cup. And oh be still my heart. Actually be still my heart though… I can’t seem to handle caffeine anymore. I get palpitations. Decaff to the rescue.
Happy eating!!!! Let me know what you think!
About Sallee
I was born in the Yukon, brought up in BC and Alberta and lived in Australia, New Zealand and England. Even though the places and scenery have changed over the years, one thing has always stayed the same. Home is where your heart is. Putting a price tag on something as personal as a home can feel overwhelming. That's why for me as a REALTOR®, selling houses is much more than numbers. It's about people. Wherever you are in the world, in life or on your journey with real estate, these relationships matter.
